At Bank One Ballpark, the Arizona fans witnessed a great pitcher's duel. Andy
Benes(1-0) finally bested his Colorado opposite, Darryl Kile(0-1), by the
score of 1 to 0.

Benes was very good in the win. He surrendered only 3 hits and 3 walks in 7
and 2/3 innings. Colorado threatened in the 9th but Arizona was able to put
down the rally.

Gregg Olson recorded his 1st save. The losing pitcher was Kile. When
questioned about the loss, Colorado's manager said, 'The fans got to see an
exciting game out there tonight. Unfortunately, we couldn't get it done this
time. Next time, though, we'll be the clubhouse with all the smiles.'

Shortstop Desi Relaford had 2 base hits and 2 RBI as the Philadelphia Phillies
defeated the New York (NL) Mets by the score of 4 to 1 at Shea
Stadium.

Philadelphia went ahead for good in the 2nd inning plating 2 runs utilizing 2
base hits. Mike Lieberthal led off and keyed the rally when he drew a walk.
Rico Brogna followed and he drew a walk. After an out was recorded, Bob
Abreu then ripped a single. Relaford was up next and he doubled which was
good for two runs. The early run support proved sufficient for Curt
Schilling(1-0) and Philadelphia. That was all the run support Schilling
required. Mark Leiter was perfect in relief and gained credit for his 1st
save.

Bobby Jones(0-1) was the losing pitcher. He surrendered 4 runs and 7 hits in
7 and 2/3 innings.
