In a startling finish the Philadelphia Phillies staged a comeback then held on
to win over the Atlanta Braves by a score of 5 to 3 at Turner
Field.

Philadelphia came through with the game-winning runs in the 9th inning with 3
runs using 3 hits. After an out was recorded, Alex Arias was the sparkplug
when he laced a base-knock. Doug Glanville stepped up next and he stroked a
one-base hit. Gregg Jefferies then drew a walk to load the bases. Scott
Rolen stepped in and he drew a walk which brought home a run. Rico Brogna
came up to bat and smacked a single which was good for two more runs.
Philadelphia rapped out 9 hits for the night.

The win was credited to Wayne Gomes(1-0) who went 1 inning allowing no runs.
Mark Leiter earned his 3rd save. The loss was charged to Mark Wohlers(1-1)
in relief.

Philadelphia's manager was very happy after the game, 'It's great to come back
and win it in your last at bats! Our guys just wouldn't give up. And did you
see the fans - one minute they're laughing and screaming down all sorts of
unprintable stuff at our guys - the next minute - SILENCE! Yes sir, a very
enjoyable win tonight!'
