In a dramatic ending at Tropicana Field the Tampa Bay Devil Rays won in their
last at-bat beating the Detroit Tigers by the count of 3 to 2.
 
The game was won by Tampa Bay with a run in the bottom of the 9th inning.
Fred McGriff doubled.  One out later, Dave Martinez got his chance to keep
things going, but he went down on strikes.  Rich Butler then delivered a
base-hit giving Tampa Bay the victory and sending the 29,569 home-town fans
home happy.  Tampa Bay rapped out 7 hits for the night.  
 
The win went to Albie Lopez(1-0) who allowed 1 run in 1 and 2/3 innings. Doug
Brocail(0-1) was given the loss in relief.  He surrendered 1 run and 2 hits
in 1 and 2/3 innings.
