Reggie Jefferson cracked a homer and had 5 RBI as the Boston Red Sox
man-handled the Seattle Mariners - the final score was 19 to 4.
 
Jefferson led the offense for Boston.  He laced a base-knock bringing in a run
in the 1st inning, doubled scoring a run in the 2nd inning and cracked a
two-run shot in the 3rd inning.  Boston lit up the scoreboard in the 2nd
inning which saw them score 5 runs on 5 hits, the 3rd inning with 5 runs and
the 9th inning which saw them score 6 runs on 4 hits.  Boston had 16 hits for
the night while Seattle had 11.  
 
Brian Rose(1-0) picked up the victory, allowing 3 runs in 6 innings. Steve
Avery preserved the game for Rose, recording his his 1st save.  The losing
pitcher was Bill Swift(0-1).  He was hit hard and gave up 10 hits and 3 walks
in 3 innings.
