The San Francisco Giants defeated the Houston Astros by a score of 6 to 3 at
The Astrodome.
 
San Francisco went ahead for good in the 3rd inning plating an isolated run
utilizing 3 base hits.  That early scoring held up.  Houston could do no
damage in the bottom of the 9th.  
 
Kirk Rueter(1-0) got the win allowing 3 runs in 7 innings. Robb Nen earned the
save, his 1st.  John Halama(0-1) ended up with the loss.  He pitched 5
innings and surrendered 9 hits and 1 walk.
