At Shea Stadium, the New York (NL) fans witnessed a great pitcher's duel.
Mark Portugal(1-0) finally bested his New York (NL) opposite, Al Leiter(0-1),
by the score of 3 to 1.

Philadelphia scored all of the necessary runs in the 6th inning scoring 3
runners on 3 hits. The big moment was provided by Scott Rolen who deflated
the crowd as he clubbed a two-run home run. Both teams finished the game
with 6 hits.

Mark Leiter earned the save, his 2nd. Leiter took the loss. He pitched 7
innings and surrendered just 4 hits and 1 walk.
